Burberry Foundation Awards Grant

The Burberry Foundation has awarded 3 million pounds to The Royal College of Art. This will go towards establishing a new research group.

The Burberry Material Futures Research Group will use a multidisciplinary approach and is part of the brand’s five year responsibility agenda.  The group will focus on research and innovation.  Burberry has stated that the brand reflects innovation giving the example of the brand’s founder, Thomas Burberry, who had invented the water resistant and gabardine fabric.

The grant also includes  £750,000 to expand the Burberry Design Scholarship, which motivates and helps students to  reach their full capabilities, regardless of financial circumstances.

Burberry aims to enhance and transform the consumer experience, through the use of more sustainable materials and designing new manufacturing methods.
