Born: New York, U.S., 1960

Carol Alt was born in 1960 in New York and is one of the most successful supermodels of all time.

Carol was first introduced to modelling when she was noticed waiting tables in her home town and she decided to model as a summer job.

Carol was immediately successful as model. Almost straight after entering the industry she was featured on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar, and went on to be a favourite for magazine covers appearing in more than 700 magazines including Sports Illustrated, Vogue, Cosmopolitan, Mademoiselle. Carol also appeared in Playboy who gave her the high accolade of ‘Most beautiful woman in the world’.  Carol was also referred to as ‘The Face’ by Life Magazine.

As well appearing prolifically for nearly every top fashion magazine Carol was also a frequent face on the catwalk, walking for designers such as Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren. Some of Carols most memorable and reputed work has been as the face for an impressive list of high end brands including Lancôme, Cover Girl, Pepsi, Hanes, Noxzema.

More than working as a model Carol transformed the whole notion of what a model is. John Casablanaca’s described her as: “The model that started the supermodel trend”. This high praise is down to Carol’s ingenious entrepreneurial spirit. She was the first model to commission posters and calendars, this sparked a new movement in modelling to popularise a model as a brand.

Towards the end of the 80s Carol made the move from modelling to acting and went on to have a successful acting career.  The majority of her films have been Italian productions but she has also starred in film ‘Snakehead Terror’ and in the TV series ‘Amazon’.

Recently Carol has made a return to her modelling roots and is now works as an ambassador for the industry, she is a spokesperson for many projects and has also become a consultant to skin-care line ‘Le Mirador’.

Carol is notorious for refusing to appear nude throughout her career, in 2008 she appeared in nude pictorial for Playboy’s December issue. The same year she was number five on askmen.com’s ‘Top 10 Models of all time’.

As well as modelling and acting Carol is also a writer and has released two books on her own raw food diet plans. Both books made the bestseller lists and Carol has since moved into fiction writing, she published her debut novel ‘This Year’s Model’ in 2008. She has since published a sequel ‘Model, Incorporated’.

Continuing her interest in raw products, in 2008 Carol also launched a skin care and beauty line ‘Raw Essentials by Carol Alt’. Later this year Carol was also a contestant on ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ competing for her charity ‘The Tony Alt Memorial foundation’. In 1993 Carol married New York Rangers player Ron Greschner, the couple divorced three years later. Carol has been dating National Hockey league player Alexi Yashin since 2000.

In recent years, Alt has embraced the digital age, utilising social media platforms to connect with her audience and share her insights on health, beauty, and self-care. Her dedication to maintaining her youthful vitality and sharing her wellness journey has resonated with fans worldwide.

Alt’s influence extends beyond her professional endeavours. As a passionate animal rights activist, she has worked tirelessly to raise awareness about animal welfare and has advocated for cruelty-free and sustainable practices in the fashion and beauty industries
