The news broke last Friday that Manuel Arnaut would replace Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz as editor-in-chief of Vogue Arabia. Abdulaziz’ abrupt departure was marked by her statement that she had been fired.

Nervora, the Dubai-based publishers of Vogue Arabia, put out a statement announcing Arnaut’s placement, effective May 7. “As the launch editor-in-chief of Vogue Arabia, Deena Aljuhani Abdulaziz has earned a place in the history of fashion and Vogue,” stated Shashi Menon, Nervora CEO.

During his ten years at Condé Nast, Arnaut has most recently overseen the 2015 launch of Architectural Digest Middle East as the publication’s editor-in-chief, after serving as editor at GQ Portugal. “The team and I are committed to working towards a Vogue Arabia that is the proud voice of the region, representing the strength and allure of the Arab woman,” he said in a statement.

Many have noted that this is the second instance in a week’s time of a man replacing a woman at the helm of a female-focused fashion magazine, the first being Edward Enniful’s scheduled replacement of Alexandra Schulman at British Vogue. Several of these observers questioning, even criticizing, these decisions.

Lauren Hutton has made headlines this week, modeling Calvin Klein underwear at 73. Calvin Klein’s latest campaign video for their underwear features models Nathalie Love, Laura Harrier, Chase Sui Wonders, Rashida Jones, Kirsten Dunst and Maya Thurman-Hawke in addition to Hutton, offering a broad  range in age, size, and ethnic diversity.

In addition to the cumulative video, each model is featured in an individual video, each one ending with the slogan, “Calvin Klein, or nothing at all.”

Hutton shares anecdotes of pick-up lines she has heard in hers. “I was going across a courtyard and I was going very fast because I didn’t want anyone to hit on me,” she began. “Suddenly there’s this guy right in front of me … and he said: ‘You wanna go for a ride in my new truck?’ I mean that was the corniest pick-up line I’d ever heard in my life.”

The campaign’s director Sofia Coppola hand-picked the models for this series, pulling from an age range stretching from 18-73. Iris Apfel and Bo Gilbert are two other models to be recently featured in high-fashion ad campaigns.
