N.21

N.21 Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – The muse? Anna Magnani. The theme? That’s a bit more complicated. Alessandro Dell’Acqua blended classic Americana with old-school Italian glamour using Magnini as the inspiration and subject. This may seem off-kilter at first, but Dell’Acqua is harkening back to the time when Magniani went to Florida to film Tennessee William’s The Rose Tattoo — a film for which she won an Oscar. That influence can be seen in the varsity stripes that trimmed everything from sweaters to skirts and herringbone jackets. The sporty bomber jackets and jumpers were balanced by clean tailoring and flowy dresses. Swarovski crystals glittered on the more evening-oriented pieces. And beach scenes woven into knitwear brought the whole theme together. The color palette was a slew of tans, greens and reds — the typical fall hues that were make fresh by a savvy use of prints. Truly stunning pieces, like a burgundy high-waisted midi dress, passed down the runway, but an emphasis on highly wearable and versatile pieces like suiting, knits and printed dresses makes this collection easy to see in the real world, even if it was inspired by the fiction of a movie.
