Autumn-Winter 2012/13 — It’s an exciting moment when the house of Valentino move away from their quintessential style based on romance to the darker side based on leather. This wasn’t surprising since the Goth has prevailed throughout all the fashion weeks. Soft buttered leather capes, A-line culottes, tunics, all in one jumpsuits and ultra long coats graced the catwalk. Even so, it wouldn’t be Valentino without a white sheer chiffon blouse paired with a leather skirt and a soft trim of renaissance flowering lining an otherwise gothic coat. The team promised a sense of ‘globetrotting’ with an ‘imaginative journey’, one could see this in tactile artisan craftsmanship using tapestry stripes of multi-coloured embroidery to create a sort of Russian doll aesthetic. The billowy, beautiful maxi-dresses were there, in black, and baby pink and for sheer glamour, edged in crystals to represent the intricate tailoring that had clearly gone into the entire collection.
