Vionnet

Vionnet Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Come for the gowns. Stay for the outerwear. Everyone is quite familiar with what Vionnet can do with the notion of creating a dress. The pieces were fluid, airy and utterly gorgeous. However, what really captured the eye were the outerwear. A full-length oxblood shearling coat was stunningly elegant, while a pitch-black aviator jacket carried a nice blend of youth and demure. There was some denim thrown in, though we can’t say were really a fan (there’s only so many ways to make denim interesting). However Goga Ashkenazi, Creative Director of the label, executed her theme — “Bird of Paradise” — well enough in the other pieces that we’ll let it slide. The gowns made with shiny printed gazar are technically remarkable, but also had an ease of movement that was almost ethereal. We loved the variety that we saw, but truly the feat rested in the gowns… And surprisingly the coats.
