Undercover Women Spring Summer 2016

As is normally the case with Jun Takahashi’s shows, a punk element was present, and the collection diverted from the feminine, sheer, embellished pieces that have been everywhere in Paris Fashion Week.  The Japanese designer’s SS16 collection for Undercover saw models transformed into circus clowns, stomping down the runway in pointed patent boots (which resembled Victorian lace up booties with a twist) painted in primary colours.

Black and white checked suits with ruffled collars attached were the main focus of the collection – some jackets lay open, with life-jacket thick straps used to make avant garde tops.  Undercover by nature is an edgy brand that relishes in the anti-commercial – instead, unusual shapes and “ugliness” are embraced.  Takahashi’s models, with bejewelled faces, devil horns, and smudged clown make up, are all testament of this concept.
