Stella McCartney Women Spring Summer 2016

Sportswear luxe and jagged tartan prints were everywhere at Stella McCartney’s SS16 show. Dresses with polo neck collars (a big feature of her collection) were subverted, with buttons veering off to the side rather than down the middle, and sections of picnic style blanket randomly patched together to create a serrated, mismatched pattern effect. McCartney also used layers of sheer stripes crossed over diagonally to create a similar result.

The theme of stripes and tartan continued into the bags that were carried, like the piece of tartan fabric constructed into a long, slender bucket shopping bag. Vertical pleats in primary colours with lined accents fell in structured waves, moving freely of their own accord and with the models’ bodies as they strutted down the catwalk. Delicate dresses were hand crocheted into gently swaying patterns and hung beautifully on the body, while platform sandals were the key footwear for the British designer.
