Saint Laurent Woman Autumn-Winter 2015 – Heidi Slimane gave us a rock and roll collection full of edgy and ultra-cool looks.
Slimane has found his niche, and he is draining it of every last ounce of energy. It’s the bad girl, or boy look. Always the same and yet different, the sets echo the collections they showcase.
Now in his third year at the helm of the house, the French fashion designer has crafted an aspirational identity and honed his potent aesthetic to give us a line of rock star/rock star groupie meets high fashion.
There were tulle prom dresses worn with mannish tweed blazers or were toughened up with leather jackets and laddered fishnet tights.
Leather was featured in a big way; tight fitted micro mini-skirts, leather trousers slashed with cut-out detailing running down from the thigh, jumpsuits and asymmetric dresses.
An array of print motifs ran throughout; polka-dot, kaleidoscopic, lipstick tubes, leopard, tiger and zebra brought colour to the predominately black designs.
Glam rock details; metallic coats, shimmery dresses and metal detail chokers added glamour.
A Saint Laurent signature in the form of the ‘Le smoking suit’ tuxedo suit made an appearance teamed with a skinny tie and braces creating a slinky silhouette.
The collection oozed attitude. Models stomped the catwalk with blinding stadium lights shining in heeled boots and strappy sandals, adding extra edge.
Hair was kept simple and worn down with some models adorning heavy blunt cut fringes. Make-up was bold with heavy feline-like eyeliner and a bright red lip creating a real punk princess theme.
No one marries rock and roll and late 70s glamour quite like Saint Laurent. Heidi Slimane’s rock chicks are ready for world domination.
