Spring-Summer 2013 – Having offered his Haute Couture collection earlier in the year, there was much anticipation surrounding Raf Simons’ Ready-to-Wear collection. The show notes referenced both past and present freedom and liberation. The hot topic, unusually for Spring-Summer, has been the jacket and the multifaceted ways it has been tailored. Simons opted for black jackets with a longer length giving a dress-like character. They came in ball-gown style with flashes of pink, and then with huge pockets, before being splattered in floral motifs. Shorts were pertinent, perhaps compensating for the short lengths and mini silhouettes. There was a distinct blend of Simons’ style with the heritage of the Dior house – both contemporary and couture. Take for instance the black and pink dresses pieced together with neon placed alongside chiffon and tulle overlays whilst at the same time, the upmost class with chic neck ties and a classic tailored suits; a beautiful combination of new and old.
