Rick Owens Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Subtlety have never been in Rick Owen’s vocabulary, often embarking on multi-faceted pieces which render the audience incapable of directing their eyes to simply one feature: this collection delivers on all accounts.

An instant standout from Owen’s collection was the earthy colours and naturalistic palette, serving as an immediate contrast to the exorbitant flourish of thick wool outerwear and nylon padding. The down-to-earth palette arguably added an unintentional flavour to the grand designs, reinforced by the barefaced beauty of the makeup and hair.  Successfully blending bundles of soft fabrics with coarser materials to create a construction where everything seamlessly meshed into one: the rough lines of the silhouettes acting as an earmark to the consciously dishevelled effect.

Resembling a mismatch of textures and shapes, the elaborate headgear on display gave outfits added height and ingenuity, which when teamed with other extravagant dress including ultra-thin sleeves protruding down until the knee and almost bulging duvet designs, hammered down his truly revolutionary mind-set on visual constructions: fashionable oddities have never been more in season.
