Max Mara

Max Mara Woman Autumn-Winter 2017-18 – Max Mara’s FW17 collection was understated, but not lacking in intrigue. We saw a slew of monochromatic outfits, which in its own right is pretty daring. People are sometimes weary of coordinating same-color pieces for fear of being too matchy matchy or worse: boring. But Max Mara struck the right balance between classy demure and stimulating. The silhouettes especially helped in achieving this. The wide-leg pants, airy culottes, and duster coats coordinated together gave the right proportions to flatter any women’s body type — a selling point for department stores, for sure. We love how relaxed this collection felt from the slouchy knits to the neutral color palette. Even the tonal gold looks had an air of casualness that’s nearly impossible to achieve if you’re wearing all gold. But that may be Max Mara’s greatest achieve with this show: providing each look an air of ease and insouciance that’s not just desirable, but enviable.
