Autumn-Winter 2011/12 – Androgyny made an appearance in this collection with its 80s cropped and shoulder padded jackets, oversized rounded shoulders and tapered pleated trousers, some of these looks would not be out of place on a man or a woman. Coats and jackets stole the show, shearling aviator ones with large pockets, macs and trenches in blue, orange, yellow, red, fur collared knee length tweed and yellow plastic puffa jackets, even chequered “picnic blanket” style round shouldered coats paid homage to the great British summertime. You can definitely see Christopher Bailey’s “tip of the hat” to the unpredictable global weather situations. Patent wellington boots with chunky soles and large newsboy fur hats, knit jumpers with faux fur front panels and high waisted fitted jackets gave the collection a cartoon like feel reinforced by the ever changing colour pallet and especially the yellow Paddington bear raincoat. The sophistication is both there and it’s not. How refreshing.
