Autumn-Winter 2010/11 – Maintaining a low profile only adds to the allure of Maison Martin Margiela and his brand. He has a cult following including the like of Jay-Z and Kanye West and it comes as no surprise why. This year was the celebration of 20 years in the industry. Names ’20’ the collection exhibits how the original concepts of Margiela’s designs shook up the fashion world from the off, and continue to do so today. Primarily using a variety of tans, the collection portrayed the deconstructed cowgirl. There was the ‘handbag jacket’ made from crocodile, lizard, python and snakeskin disassembled bags and then the ‘cowgirl’ trousers constructed using only cowboy boots. Everything is the extraordinary with Margiela such that cowboy boots did not stop at the ankle, rather they rocketing up the entire leg. It was an interesting and thought-provoking collection.
