Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera Woman Spring Summer 2017 – Carolina Herrera presented a reminiscent collection today, evocative and wistful while remaining contemporary and timeless. A denim gown, strapless with a cascading skirt opened the show, featuring white stitching along the bodice that resembled ribbing. Denim dresses came next, and a white jacket with bunched sleeves and a matching slitted pencil skirt followed soon after, over a white chiffon shirt spotted throughout the collection. Cinched waists and full skirts reinforced the feminine silhouettes that reigned supreme.

Black and white featured strongly through the show, whether in stripes, gingham, and colour blocking. A knit sweater with a black stripe across the chest and a red three set on the arm leant a sporty effect, while knots gave the collection a more relaxed feeling. Shiny, baroque floral patterns brought to the forefront the ladylike sensibility so characteristic of Herrera’s presentations.

Distinctly 80’s silhouettes appeared toward the end in the thick, twisted straps of Grecian gowns, a puff-sleeved cocktail dress, and shiny silver brocade. The final gown, long sleeved with layers of white chiffon gracefully slipped off the shoulders to frame the décolletage, and defined the waist with a wide black ribbon.

While the show was certainly a strut through Herrera’s past, no piece was unwearable. On the contrary, each look was a rejuvenated take on past designs. Elegant and uncomplicated, this collection was imbued with classically feminine style and sensual details, completed by bright red lipstick and smoky eyes.
