25-year-old French designer Marine Serre, who works at Balenciaga, has won the LVHM Prize 2017. The prize was announced by Pop star Rihanna on Friday at the ceremony in Fondation Louis Vuitton, Paris, and includes €300,000 grant along with a year-long mentorship.

A graduate of La Cambre Mode in Brussels, Serre presented her graduation collection. Her inspiration for the collection came from the terror attacks in Paris and Brussels. The collection, named “RADICAL CALL FOR LOVE,” is trying to portray the centuries of Arab, Turkey and Islamic history.

Serre was one of the top 7 finalists who was judged by the elite jury members, including Céline’s Phoebe Philo, Dior’s Maria Grazia Chiuri, Karl Lagerfeld, Kenzo designers Humberto Leon and Carol Lim, Loewe artistic director Jonathan Anderson, Louis Vuitton’s Nicolas Ghesquière and Marc Jacobs.

A Special Prize was awarded to Label Kozaburo, managed by a Japanese designer Kozaburo Akasaka. He introduced his collection “BRUTAL SENSITIVITY,” which is created using recycled fabrics. He acquired a prize of a €150,000 grant, along with one-year mentorship with LVHM Group.

LVHM Prize for Young Designers was launched in 2014. In the previous years, the winners were Thomas Tait from Central Saint Martins, Marques’Almeida, and Graces Wales Bonner respectively.
