For the same reasons the motorcycle Jacket was so popular after The Wild Ones, the plain white t-shirt and jeans look became the style of the decade because of James Dean’s portrayal of Jim Stark in Rebel without a cause. Dean was a notorious sex symbol of the decade and therefore a style icon, ensuring every man in America owned a plain white t-shirt and faded jeans.
