空洞在印花中主要是图案之间的间隙部分，根据图案的不同这些空洞也可能非常不同。一些花样如万花斑驳花样和满化花样中间没有空洞，而在其它花样上这种印花的使用可能会出现非常不同的效果。空洞在花样中通常是设计中的负空间，其设计大多是印制的。
