Spring-Summer 2013 – A proportion of this years shows have leaned towards the dark side, with vampish and gothic tones being a strong feature. For Demeulemeester, the gothic inclination was clear from the start. There were dark hues of black and deep purple with only a snippet of metallic silver. Billowing black chiffon capes were central to the collection; the cape being popular this Paris Fashion Week. This also gave a variety of lengths for many different pieces with ultra long draped sleeves offsetting micro-lengths. The shoulder pads gave a new dimension to otherwise standard black dresses. Accessories were kept to a minimum with only thick waist belts used to bring in the waist and for shoes, black chunky ankle boots. Pertaining to the loose fit, a rapid of undulating fabric creating oversized maxi-dresses starting from the neck cascading to the floor. It was a show centered on the heavy use of fabrics and dark colours.
