Manolo Blahnik launches debut bag collection

Luxury footwear designer Manolo Blahnik has launched his first ever handbag collection for the brand. Comprised of jewel-toned satin, delicate crepe and Swarovski crystals, the bags emulate the timeless elegance of Manolo’s highly coveted shoes. The capsule handbag collection features six varieties of clutches, in rectangular, egg and heart shapes, which can be bought in a range of colours.

“I am always inspired by beautiful women from the past and present, so when I thought about doing a collection of bags, I was sure they were going to be evening bags for the women of today,” Blaknik told British Vogue. “I love ornaments in my shoes so why not add these to the bags too? These bags are an extension of some of the shoe styles I really like as I wanted to keep the connection between the shoes and bags.”

“This collection came up because it is something that I really wanted to do – I had no rush in getting this done,” he continued, “I like to make things beautifully and sometimes to get something right it takes time. At the moment I have no plans to make other accessories. For the moment I would like to enjoy the bags, and I am already thinking about more bags for next season!”

Priced between £1,320 and £1,480, the clutches cost almost double the amount of the shoes, which generally retail between £450 and £750.

The collection will be available in stores by the end of July from the Manolo Blahnik flagship on Old Church Street, Liberty and Harrods.
