It was announced today that Christophe Lemaire has been appointed as the creative director for a Uniqlo Paris R&D centre, and will be designing a new line for the label called Uniqlo U. Lemaire, the label designed by namesake Christophe Lemaire and partner Sarah-Linh Tran, has worked on collaborations with the company for the past several years, including the “Uniqlo and Lemaire,” which Lemaire will continue to design.

I am delighted to welcome Mr Christophe Lemaire as a member of the Uniqlo team,” stated the president, chairman and CEO of Uniqlo’s parent company, Tadashi Yanai. “I have time and again been astonished by his outstanding talent in working together to create the Uniqlo and Lemaire collection. I look forward to seeing more of the innovations that he inspires, and I am confident that his tremendous experience and talent will thrive at Uniqlo.”

Christophe Lemaire holds impressive experience designing in the industry, from his early years interning for the likes of Christian Lacroix, Thierry Mugler and Yves Saint Laurent, moving on to work as the artistic director at Lacoste and later Hermès. His eponymous label, designed with partner Sarah-Linh Tran, has been in the works for several years, and was resurrected in 2014.

Of the most recent collaboration with Uniqlo, Lemaire remarked that it was about, “…again trying to create the most essential pieces that you can make use of. Elevated basics. It’s been a pleasure working with the Uniqlo design team. There is this Japanese working culture of always trying to get the best quality, very much about details, and also about the yarns we worked with—it’s a very honest product for the price point.” A browse through the pieces available from the Uniqlo and Lemaire collection reflects this perfectly, offering simple, clean, comfortable pieces that reflect a more modern sense of classic, everyday looks.

The first Uniqlu U collection will premiere during the Paris couture fashion week in July, and be available in stores for the Fall/Winter 2016/17 season.
