Alexa Chung Debuts Eponymous Line

British it-girl Alexa Chung has launched her own fashion line titled Alexachung. While the announcement was made earlier this year, it has been a long awaited venture by fans, as well as those who have watched the model and television presenter evolve over the past several years.

Based on her own sense of style, the line is set to be tomboyish and chic, featuring a range of items including maxi dresses and blazers, jewelry, shoes and more. Slogan tees and printed sweatshirts fall in line with striped sweaters and pastel suits, emanating a distinct 1960’s and ‘70’s feel throughout. Patent dresses and shoes add shine and sex appeal to the collection, meeting nerdy vibes in the form of a saturn ring and disco “screw you” slogan tees.

Several people have praised Chung for excluding fur, exotic skins and angora from her line, which she confirmed with PETA earlier this week. Several of her past collaborations, such as last year’s Archive by Alexa for Marks & Spencer, also used faux leather for skirts, jackets and shoes.

“I want to make sure that we are offering something that is exciting and unique and new, but also the point of this brand is that it connects to everyone. I’m not making something that has got a crazy high price point. I want to make sure it’s something that is speaking to just everyone on the street.” Ranging in price from $105-685, the collection is not unattainable, but it is not exactly affordable to everyone on the street.

As for the future of the brand, Chung seems happy to take it slowly. “We will expand into new categories, but not for awhile,” she told Refinery29. “There was a conversation recently about doing something in a different category; it felt too soon for me, even if the collection wouldn’t be out for another two years — I don’t want to compromise the quality of everything by trying to do too much at once. I was also relying lot on the team to educate me, because I don’t have an education in fashion design. Things I’d instinctively want to do aren’t necessarily possible with a certain fabric. So the more I’ve learned, hopefully the better it gets.”

Chung designed the collection along with six other designers, including Edwin Bosdon, formerly of Haider Ackerman. The full collection is available at alexachung.com.
