Astrakhan

Astrakhan is the tightly curled fleece of the Karakul lambs. It is named after its place of origin in Russia. It is a relatively course fibre and is used for outer garments, carpets and for felting. It is usually black or grey in colour and is a fur fabric. Astrakhan is also the name given to any acrylic or wool fabrics manufactured to resemble Astrakhan fur. These alternatives are made with a curly looped pile and are very warm and durable.
