Burlap

Burlap fabric is a coarse plain weave cloth. It is usually made from jute, flax, hemp or kenaf. Lighter weight varieties may be used for shirts or bags. Burlap is mainly used for sacking but can be blended with other vegetable fibres to make ropes and netting. Because of its durability, open weave, texture and colour it was often used as a camouflaging tactic in World War Two. It can be made into rugs and it used extensively in agriculture. Most commonly known as Hessian.
